President’s Message

By David Smith

Over the last several weeks I delivered homeowners directories to almost every house on the east side of Creedmoor Road.  Most of the time I simply threw the directory on the front porch and moved on to the next house.  In a few instances I had the opportunity to speak to some of you.  While I enjoyed the conversations, my delivery task made me realize just how big and diverse  our community is (and I’m just talking about that portion of Stonehenge east of Creedmoor).  Yet for all the differences in size and location, we share a common bond.  Stonehenge is our community.  If we let the value of our community decline, all of us suffer loss of property value and quality of life.  It is up to us to ensure that our streets are free of clutter and trash, that our community is a safe place for children, and that crime is not a problem.  Our expectations cannot be met unless all of us are willing to shoulder some of our common responsibilities.  Whether your involvement is with your immediate neighbors, the folks on your street, or with the entire community of Stonehenge, it is important that you are involved.

The SHA Board could use some extra help.  Next year we are planning new social events and other enhancements for our community.  If you can spare a couple of hours each month, please lend a hand to your community.  Contact any of the Board members to learn the date and location of the next Board meeting.

SHA membership is on a calendar year basis.  Elsewhere in the newsletter is a membership form.  Please send your check to Nancy Ritter as soon as possible.

This will likely be the last SHA newsletter for 2002.  The SHA Board wishes everyone a happy and safe Holiday Season.

  Stonehenge Directories

By Renee Sarver

Most Stonehenge residents have received their new directories.  There are more deliveries for those who haven’t.

Look through your directory.  It’s a great way to build our Stonehenge community.  Find out who your neighbors are.  Use the advertisers’ services to support our local businesses.

Thanks to the volunteers who helped distribute them

Creedmoor Crosswalks Update

By Lisa Barthelemy

Good news.  The money has been found.  Thanks in part to many of you who contacted Steve Johnson, DOT deputy division traffic engineer at N.C. Department of Transportation, and our relentless efforts in reminding them about the need for crosswalks at Creedmoor,.Steve informed me that the State has found the funds to install two crosswalks with pedestrian signals at Creedmoor and Howard and one crosswalk at Creedmoor and Stonehenge.

So when we will see these crosswalks installed?  Steve could not commit to a date; however, he did reassure me that traffic engineers are working on the signalization plans. He will then send the plans to the City for installation of the crosswalks.

The other crosswalk and pedestrian signal at Creedmoor and Stonehenge will take a little more time.  According to the codes, there must be sidewalks on both sides of the road before installing crosswalks.  Developer Steve Kinney, who plans on building an office complex on the corner of Creedmoor and Stonehenge (next to Raleigh Pediatrics), has sidewalks etched in the blue prints that will stretch the sidewalk from Raleigh Pediatrics to the corner of Creedmoor.  Timing for the development is still unknown.

Thanks again to you and the Stonehenge Homeowner’s Association for your support. It made a difference.  The next update I hope will be just one sentence.  Crosswalks installed.

It’s a Right -

AND, a responsibility.

Light Up Stonehenge!

By Eileen Francis

It may be early to start thinking about the Holiday season, but we want to continue the Light Up Stonehenge tradition.  Last year was a great year for participation and we want this year to be no exception.   Last year, for the first time, we partnered with Leesville High School Band to help assemble and deliver the Luminary kits.  It was a great success.  We were able to donate $1000 to the band.

As mentioned last year, we would like to continue to team up with a local group and provide a donation as recognition for assistance in this project.  Do you have a group that could provide 15-20 helpers (10 that can drive) for 4 hours the first Saturday in December?  Let me know if you have a service or school group that would be interested.

The Luminary order form is included in this newsletter since we're unsure of the next newsletter date.  Please fill out your order form now so you won't forget!  Please let me know if you would like to be involved in this neighborhood effort.  We can always use help in assembly, delivery, or reminding our neighbors to order.
